How to Use MiMo 2.6: OpenCode Free Access, Desktop and API

Xiaomi MiMo 2.6 can be accessed through the official developer platform and MiMo Desktop. OpenCode also offers a limited-time MiMo-V2.6-Flash Free entry. These are different products and payment paths: seeing a free Flash option does not establish free access to Pro or an API balance elsewhere.

Availability and documentation were checked on September 22, 2026. Start by choosing the task and provider, then verify the precise model name in that provider’s interface.

Which entry point fits your task?

The MiMo release announcement describes the official entry points. Treat a successful demo on one platform as evidence about that platform, not every account or client.

OpenCode: select the free model explicitly

The OpenCode Zen documentation lists mimo-v2.6-flash-free. OpenCode configuration uses the provider/model form, so the Zen selection is opencode/mimo-v2.6-flash-free.

Do not copy that whole string into a direct Xiaomi API request. The official API uses its own identifiers, including mimo-v2.6-flash and mimo-v2.6-pro. The provider prefix and -free suffix describe the OpenCode route.

The free offering is temporary. The documentation reviewed for this guide does not establish a permanent entitlement or a universal free period across providers. Check the current model list before relying on it for a scheduled workflow.

There is also a data-use distinction: OpenCode explicitly lists MiMo-V2.6-Flash Free among exceptions where collected data during the free period may be used to improve the model. Its general zero-retention statement must not be quoted without that exception. Choose a route whose terms fit the data you intend to submit.

Why can I see Flash but not Pro?

First inspect the selected provider. A provider that exposes a promotional Flash route does not necessarily offer Pro through the same account or plan. Next check the current client version and model list. Updating a client may refresh metadata, but it cannot grant a provider entitlement.

If a model is listed but a request fails, retain the redacted error and request ID. That is different from a model not appearing in the picker. Before changing keys or plans, identify whether the issue is model availability, a depleted allowance or an incompatible endpoint.

This guide does not claim that a particular failure has been reproduced on every OpenCode account. Community reports are useful leads for investigation; the current provider documentation and your request log determine your case.

Desktop membership and API keys

The official announcement says MiMo Desktop supports membership access to Pro and Flash and can use a configured API key. Check which connection is active before estimating a task’s cost. Desktop membership, Token Plan credits and a developer account’s cash balance should not be treated as interchangeable.

For API setup, obtain the key and endpoint as a matching pair from your console. Ordinary API keys and Token Plan keys have different usage arrangements. A region-specific example in a tutorial should not override the base URL issued to your account.

The MiMo pricing guide explains the standard Pro, Flash and UltraSpeed schedules. UltraSpeed is a separate service option, so its presence in documentation is not proof that any account can immediately invoke it.

Is the open model the same as the API name?

Downloaded checkpoints have repository names, revisions and runtime requirements. They are not selected by pasting a hosted API identifier into any local app. The official 9B model card describes a distinct distilled research model; it is not the complete Pro model compressed into a consumer-device label.

If you simply need a first application request, continue with MiMo 2.6 API configuration. Keep local deployment and hosted inference as separate evaluations so you know which model produced each result.
